In May 2009, Musagetes invited artist and curator, Andrew Hunter, to design an intervention at the World Environmental Education Congress in Montreal. The intervention burgeoned into a high-octane, 25-person team of creative researchers in the exhibitor hall with everything from StoryCubes and environmental mapping tools to popsicles made of purified sewage water. The 3000 delegates at the Congress gave the project a big thumbs up and so DodoLab was born.
Out of the success of this launch, Musagetes decided to establish DodoLab as an ongoing program in residence at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. As Director and Principal, Andrew Hunter leads an ever-changing group of young creative individuals and students along with DodoLab Principal, Lisa Hirmer. Their projects collaborated with the Musagetes Café in Rijeka and have planned a series of Youth Cafés and labs in Sudbury to be launched in September 2010. The Sudbury youth initiatives are co-funded by Musagetes and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
