TheBrantClub – September 3-9, 2012

 

TheBrantClub is a program of five event in the Brant Neighbourhood that will take place from September 3-9, 2012. The events are planned by Lucia Babina and Marjetica Potrč in collaboration with the community.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3: 

1-3 PM: Nature Club 1 – Nature in Brant (meet at Dakota Park) The Healthy Landscapes Program leads an all-ages nature walk around our neighbourhood.Explore trees, wildflowers, plants and parks. This event will end at Brant Avenue Public School for The Brant Mural celebration.

3-4 PM: The Brant Mural (Brant Avenue Public School) Come celebrate artists Lucia Babina and Marjetica Potrč’s new mural telling the story of the Brant’s past, present and future, inspired by the growth of our neighbours working together on projects like: Brant Avenue Neighbourhood Group, Peer Leaders, Community Garden, Summer Camp-a-Mania, Garden Fresh, and Community Cafés. Join us for glass of lemonade and a sweet treat!

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8

 10 AM-12 PM: Nature Club 2 – The Great Guelph Lake Hiking Adventure (meet at Brant Avenue Public School) Join us on this walking adventure led by Nature in the Neighbourhood (Gosling Foundation) to Guelph Lake and back. Along the way we will stop to catch interesting bugs, meet some of our plant neighbours, have a little snack (provided), take time to listen to nature, play a few games and create some art on the spot. Come prepared with shoes suitable for a two-hour walk, sun protection and water.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 

10 AM-12 PM: Food Movement 1 – Dakota Park: Community Farm? (Dakota Park) What is organic food and how is it grown? Can I grow it myself? Together with Everdale Farms (Organic Farm and Environmental Learning Centre) we will imagine the possibilities of growing our own food as a community in Brant. Come and tell us what you think!

12-4 PM: Food Movement 2 – Brant Community Picnic (Dakota Park) Bring your friends and family to our free picnic in Dakota Park. Different vegetables from the community garden, Everdale Farms and preserved food made by Vicki Beard’s family will be available for sampling. There will be a special performance by local musician James Gordon and the Summer Camp-a-Mania Kids, who will sing songs that they wrote together. All you have to bring is your appetite and your lawn chair or a blanket!
